The Event That Kicked It All Off” holds a cherished place in the heart of Dayo’s Family, marking the beginning of our beautiful journey of reunions and lasting connections. What started as playful banter between Dayo Jalekun and Ope Banwo about a long-overdue party from our University of Ife days, quickly turned into a mission fueled by nostalgia and the desire to dance the night away, 30 years after the fact. Spearheaded by Otunba Opeyemi Agbaje, Tolu Dare, Funke Adewunmi, Dayo Jalekun, and many more, our determined members breathed life into the idea, transforming talk into action.
In 1999, members from across the globe converged in Lagos for a grand reunion that would go down in history. For many, it was the first encounter since our graduation in 1985, making it a profoundly emotional and joyful occasion. The event was a spectacular celebration, filled with laughter, dancing, and the rekindling of old friendships, while also laying the foundation for new ones. This Mega Dance Reunion not only reconnected us but also strengthened our bond, serving as a pivotal moment that encouraged the growth of our group as members eagerly invited others to join.
It was, indeed, a glorious time—a testament to the enduring spirit of Dayo’s Family and a reminder of the joy and unity that come from celebrating together. This event was more than just a reunion; it was the spark that ignited a tradition of togetherness, setting the stage for all the wonderful gatherings that would follow.
